New openings 2014

Dear Students and Parents,

There are currently 2 NEW openings:
* Tuesday......4:00PM-4:30PM
* Thursday.....5:30PM-6:00PM.
I have had a waiting list of potential clients and new students and cannot keep my openings for too long, but am filling in my openings on first-come first-serve basis before summer vacations begin since some parents on the list have rejected the days/times I have available or not responded in a timely manner.

As many of you may know, I wish to leave a strong base of students to introduce to music and then let them have a fun vacation before school begins again this upcoming summer.  If you know of anyone interested in receiving piano or voice lesson ages 5 and up, hand them the REFERRAL LETTER I will be handing out at your next class time (shown below). You will notice that prices have changed due to this being a tax-paying business. Prices may be adjusted if necessary, based on circumstances and financial need.

If your referral becomes enrolled and consistently attends classes for at least 6 months, you will receive 2 free lessons on me! I like to reward people that help me keep my passion alive. Thank you!

NEW ClassDojo

Dear Parents or Guardians,

I am exited to tell you about ClassDojo, a new teacher tool I will be using to help build your student’s learning habits and boost music lessons engagement.

ClassDojo allows me to track student practice and learning skills throughout the day! Just like the written charts I’ve been using, which are being replaced with this awesome new system, they can earn points towards treats and rewards just like before. I have taken the time to explain this to your children and they are exited to earn points. As for now, a student can reach their reward every time they earn 50 points, practicing in itself is worth the most points.

One of the great features of ClassDojo is that it allows me to send you a “skills report” every Friday by email. My hope is that this will bring you and me closer together and help you better understand the progress of your student on a week to week basis.  Your child can easily customize their student character online with the secret code I handed to them as well.

For homework this week I've handed out slips with simple instructions for you to keep connected. If you've misplaced it, I need you to send me a blank email with your student' name in the subject line to oenrichingservices@gmail.com. You can easily download this app on any android and ios system for free as well. Thank you very much!

Best wishes,
Maria Hernandez

1st Showtime!

I cannot begin to express how amazing it was to see all my students participate in their very first Showtime on Saturday, May 25th.  I felt butterflies for them and shared their happiness once they were finally done while parents hugged them all around.

Unlike recitals, Showtime is a moment to showcase where a students stands in their progress. You can see this more as a informal performance of how each student is growing, while performing for peers and parents, the students are able to get over stage fright and become comfortable in public settings slowly, but surely. Showtime performances and numbers are not planned ahead of time simply because this encourages students and parents to be consistent in practice and becomes a routine the students can easily become accustomed to if prepared. This is not a common practice in music lessons because it involves a lot more work from the teacher to prepare and plan, but I think it's worth it. Showtime is meant to be short and sweet. Think of it as a pop-quiz for musicians, a performance meant for loved ones alone and private enough for students to not feel overwhelmed.  The more students practice, the more prepared they'll be for Showtime and ultimately, the Recital.

As I continue to teach and learn from my students and their personalities, I can't help but think of how important it is to practice.  I recently created a page with tips on how to motivate students at home.  If you have the time, please, read it.  As for me, I am very exited to continue Showtime and plan for the Recital later this year.

Thank you all for your participation!
